Brower Yerger

Obituary of Brower B Yerger

Brower B Yerger III, 60, of Belleair, FL, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Brower was born in Pottstown, PA, the son of the late Dr. Brower B Yerger, Jr. (former Mayor of Pottstown) and Barbara (Weikel) Yerger. Brower was a 1972 graduate of Pottstown Senior High School where he was on the football and wrestling teams. Brower received his B.S. from Temple University in Psychology, after which he moved to Florida to be with family, where he worked as an EMT and went on to acquire his degree as a registered nurse from St. Petersburg College. Brower enjoyed many years working as a "traveling nurse" filling temporary positions at various hospitals around the country. He worked in several hospitals in Las Vegas and very much enjoyed working there during the NFL season. Brower was most recently an ER Nurse at Mease Countryside Hospital in Clearwater, FL. He dedicated his life to caring for others, always trying to make his patients feel at ease with his great sense of humor. He would gladly work holidays so other nurses, mostly mothers with children, could enjoy time off with their families, and he was always quick to help his co-workers with the "heavy lifting" jobs. Unfortunately, Brower contracted a contagious disease sometime during the course of his medical career that went undetected until a few years ago, and by the time it was discovered, severe damage had been done to his body, and he also suffered subsequent dire side effects. Brower passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas Park, FL, with his mother and his sister, Tanice, at his side. Brower, always fondly called "Brower B," was best known for his kindness, compassion and generosity towards others - family, friends and strangers. And, most lovingly, for his great sense of humor. Recently, as he was unable to speak, he was asked if he needed any help to knock once, and if he was okay to knock twice. Typical Brower B, he knocked three times! Brower maintained close relationships with several of his best friends from high school, and his dear friends made the effort to spend time with him during his last days, one friend driving non-stop from PA to spend several hours with Brower during his final hours. Brower loved Halloween, and one of his best experiences was a trip to Knott's Scary Farm in Anaheim, CA, where he was able to see his favorite, Elvira, perform. Brower was also an avid movie buff, seeing them all (even the bad ones!), and he especially liked horror and Sci-Fi movies. Brower was also a certified scuba diver and very much enjoyed the Florida Keys. Brower is survived by his mother, Barbara W. Yerger of Belleair, Florida; sister Dr. Tanice (Ken Marsh) Knopp of Longboat Key, FL; sister Taren Y. (Richard) Weber of Irvine, CA; brothers, Brad B Yerger and Brian B Yerger both of Belleair, FL; four nieces, Kelsey Weber, Marisa Rhodes, Kacy Yerger, and Samantha Yerger; one nephew, Shea Weber; aunt Thelma Smith of Boyertown, Pennsylvania; uncle Edward Conway of Timonium, Maryland (husband of the late Barbara Ann Yerger Conway, beloved aunt), and many cousins. The family requests memorials to: Suncoast Hospice 5771 Roosevelt Boulevard Clearwater, FL 33760 $(document).ready(function(){ });
