Obituary of John U. G. Kiefer

Kiefer, John U.G. 87, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at home. John was born in Springfield, MO, June 7, 1930 and is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frona (Wheeler) Kiefer and son, Dr. Charles Kiefer. John graduated from Springfield High school where he was an all-state high jumper and Drury University where he earned eight varsity letters in track and basketball. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He taught and coached high school in Missouri and coached freshman basketball at Florida State University while earning a master's and doctorate in Education. John moved to St. Petersburg in 1965 where he was a guidance counselor at St. Petersburg, Dunedin, and Countryside High Schools. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, American Legion and Grant Ave. Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. He loved nature and his family. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gail; children, Dr. Joseph Kiefer (Jody), Dr. Susan Crews (Dr. John), Carol Kiefer Stauffer (Bryan); grandchildren Alex, Chase and Brooke Kiefer; Grant and Sarah Crews and Cameron Stauffer; his sister, Helen Yarbrough and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11am at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
