Obituary of S. Larry Harvey

Sipple Larry Harvey died peacefully at the VA Hospice March 17, 2018, In St. Petersburg, FL. He was surrounded by his loving family, who prayed, cried and sang him into the arms of Jesus. Larry was born January 27, 1926 to Gussie Stubbs Harvey and Sipple D. Harvey in Ludowici, GA. They then relocated to Savannah, GA, where he grew up. Later, after moving to Jacksonville FL, Larry worked at JC Penneys as a shoe salesman. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. Upon returning from the Navy, Larry returned to JC Penneys. Larry met his beautiful Nora at a singles dance in Jacksonville, and the two were married July 23, 1950. They started their family, and relocated to St. Petersburg, FL in April 1962 where he continued his career with JC Penneys. Larry retired in 1984 after working for JC Penneys for 40 years. The family became active members of Northside Baptist Church in 1962. He was no ordinary man. He was a servant of God, with a big heart, who loved his family and community. Larry served as a volunteer at Northside Baptist Church for many years, teaching Sunday school, Awana's, and ushering. After retiring, he worked another 14 years volunteering at the church's Thrift and Gift. Larry Harvey was preceded in death by his mother, Gussie Stubbs Harvey; his father, Sipple D. Harvey; and his beautiful wife, Eleanora Emy Harvey. He is survived by his sons, Larry G. Harvey, and wife, Donna, David A. Harvey, Richard W. Harvey, and wife, Pamela; his granddaughters, Savannah Gaskin-Aukett and Devan Harvey; and his great-granddaughter, Brielle Gaskin-Aukett. The family thanks the wonderful hospice nurses at the VA for providing our loved one with comfort and peace. Memorial service will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 6000 38th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL April 14,2018 at 2:00pm.
