Obituary of Helen Ward Hood

Hood, Helen Ward, 101, of St. Petersburg, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 11, 2018, with her three children sitting beside her holding her hands. She was just 10 days shy of her 102nd birthday. Helen was born in Evergreen, Alabama and moved to St. Petersburg in 1920 with her parents and three sisters. She was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church for over 45 years. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Emmett, Jr. She was a devoted and cherished wife, a consummate homemaker (although readily admitted she didn't love to cook), and a much-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. One of her grandchildren said, "She lifted me up my entire life." And another, "Gram was the best listener and she always told me pretty is as pretty does and she did 'pretty' beautifully!" She is survived by her children Emmett Hood III (Sandra), Becky Hood Wells (Harold), Lee Hood Burgess (Tom); grandchildren, Byron Thomas Hood (Elizabeth), Emmett Hood IV, Bradley Hood Wells, Whitney Wells Shouppe (Alex), Stuart Price Wells, Thomas Paul Burgess, Jr. (Stephanie), Steele Hood Burgess, and Emily Burgess Uhl (Tom); great-grandchildren, Holly Brice Hood, Kelly Marini Hood, Heather Elise Hood, Weston Miller Hood, Alexandra Vi Shouppe, Steele Bradley Shouppe, Celeste Vale Burgess, Charlotte Ward Burgess, Thomas Paul Burgess III, Charles Victor Uhl, George Nicholas Uhl, and Helen Isabelle Uhl. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice (5771 Roosevelt Blvd. Ste. 300, Clearwater, 33760), Northeast Presbyterian Church (4400 Shore Acres Blvd NE, St. Petersburg 33703), or a charity of your choice.
