Obituary of Winfield Scott McIntyre

W. Scott McIntyre Jr. 83, of St. Petersburg made his transition to heaven. Born in Chicago IL in 1926. Graduated from Knox College where he was a member of Sigma Nu. Came to St Petersburg in 1959 working for Commerce Clearing House. Lived in New Orleans and built a home there. Moved back to St Petersburg in 1980. Retired at 57 from CCH as a senior Vice President. Married to Elizabeth McIntyre and Weston McIntyre. As a young man, he was a life guard on Lake Michigan in Chicago were his love of the water began. He was an avid boater a true waterman and he and Weston McIntyre completed "The Great Loop" in a 34 foot Mainship Trawler which is the trip around the coast of the eastern US from Florida up to the Great Lakes down the Mississippi and back to St Petersburg. The trip took six months. Scott was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a champion of those less fortunate. Scott was a volunteer for the Lions Club. Scott was a 40 year member of the St Petersburg Yacht Club. He was also member of Amnesty International, Greenpeace, The Holocaust Museum and ACLU. He served on the board of Boley Center for over a decade. He was an avid reader. Scott arranged to have the first air conditioning installed at North Ward Elementary in the 1960's. Scott had two children a son Scott McIntyre III and a daughter Lynn McIntyre now deceased. Scott traveled the world and many of its oceans and at the age of 82 took a small cruise ship around the Cape Horn and through the Straits of Magellan off the southern tip of South America. Scott loved life and was a doer. Scott's next boating adventure will be to Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. A celebration of his life will be held Monday February 8th at First Unity Church 460 46th Avenue North, St Petersburg Fl at 11AM. It will be followed by a reception in his honor at Pass-A-Grille Yacht Club on Pass-A-Grille Beach.
