Obituary of John J. Sheridan

JOHN JOSEPH SHERIDAN

Sheridan, John J., 81, of St. Petersburg passed away May 11, 2018 at the Bay Pines VA.  Born and raised in Albany, New York, he served 2 years with the Navy in the post Korean Way before going on to graduate from the University of Florida.  After College, he spent 8 years in the seminary at Conception Abbey in Missouri before leaving for Florida to care for his ailing father, where he met his beloved wife of 43 years, Barbara Gammon.  He spent his career as an educator teaching biology until retirement.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Sheridan; and his siblings Richard, Robert, Lillian and Marjorie.  John is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Joshua and daughter-in-law, Dina; and grandchildren Stella Rose and Beau Henry John.  John was a philosopher at heart, with a sharp mind and sly wit.  His son often referred to him as a “beautiful man”.  He adored his family, was thrilled to spend the past 4 years getting to know his granddaughter who he called “Beautiful Stella Starla” and lucky enough to greet his grandson, Beau, born earlier this year.  His intellect and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.  John’s funeral service will be Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1pm at St. Paul’s Catholic Church located at 1800 12th St. N., St. Petersburg, Florida.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ACLU, www.aclu.org or the NAACP, www.naacp.org.
