Obituary of John Lincoln Snodgrass

 

Snodgrass, John Lincoln, Jr., 87 in the presence of his family died on May 25, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

 

John, the oldest child of John and Helen (Hibbard) Snodgrass was born December 8, 1930 in Chicago, IL. In 1949 the family moved to Darien, CT where he graduated from Darien High School in 1950.   He served as Sgt US Army, 7th Inf. Div serving in Korea before attending Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1955. John married Virginia Harriet Jones on August 14, 1959.  

 

John retired from the St. Petersburg Times Transportation Department. His career also included many years as a Life Insurance Agent and he served on the board of the St. Petersburg Life Underwriters Association.

 

John was actively involved as a Cub and Boy Scout Leader and awarded the Boy Scouts of America District Award of Merit in 1982.   He also served for 17 years as Manager, Coach and Umpire for Woodlawn Youth Baseball. John was an avid Tampa Bay Rays fan never missing a game at the Trop from 1998-2018.   He is on the Tampa Bay Rays Wall of Fame. He served on the Board of Directors and worked as a Bingo worker for the Suncoast Sound Drum & Bugle Corp.  He donated more than 20 gallons of blood to the community.

 

John was preceded in death by his parents; sister Helen McGrath; and brother Charles Snodgrass. His survivors, in addition to his wife, include sons, John III, Mark (Dawn) and David; sisters Mary (Silvio) Pattacini and Catherine (George) Werbesky; brothers Michael (Candy) and James (Patti) Snodgrass; sister-in-law Ruth Snodgrass; 10 nieces and nephews. John’s visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 11am-12pm with funeral service at 12pm. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
