Obituary of Ambrose J. Letter

Ambrose Joseph Letter, “Andy,” 94, peacefully passed away at home on December 12, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 18, 1924, Ambrose was the oldest of eight siblings. Ambrose served in the Army Air Corps as a B-25 and B-26 pilot during WWII. In his later years, he worked in Quality Assurance for the Air Force and Navy. Ambrose never met a stranger. He talked to people wherever he went and always left a lasting impression. His smile was contagious. And he loved storytelling and cooking. At one time, he even owned a restaurant in Philadelphia called Hoagie Heaven. Ambrose was an avid tennis player and golfer and enjoyed playing backgammon and pinochle. He was honest, loving, kind-hearted and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Alice Letter, his siblings Mary Graham, Dan Letter, Owen Letter, Catherine Campbell, Joseph Letter and Alice Wolf, and his son Jeffrey Letter. Ambrose is survived by his spouse, Helen Letter; his sister, Dolores Doran; sister-in-law, Joan Letter; his children Marilyn Wright, Bobby (Debbie) Letter, Thomas (Kathy) Letter, Sue (Jeb) Bobbin, John Letter, Alice Letter; Virginia (Rich Cohen) Walz and Cindi Zimmerman; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services for Ambrose will be held at Anderson-McQueen Family Tribute Centers, 2201 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 11am with Committal Service to follow at Royal Palm Cemetery South.
