Sorry about the loss of your loved one. I see that Dr. Wayne Mitchell sung at the funeral. He was my beloved professor too, but I don't know how to contact him. Can you send me that information?

I wanted to appreciate the joy that Tom brought to the world through music. I sang in the Kings Chorus the year he directed it, and, although he had pain even then, while conducting, he pushed himself and us to make beautiful music. His humor, spirit and musical expertise will be missed in the world.

I will remember Tom as an outstanding Choral professor and conductor, but more importantly, I will remember Tom as a great mentor and dear friend. I will never forget his words of wisdom, his humility, his smile and the sound of his laugh. Gayl and family, please know you are in my prayers. I pray God provides for your needs and brings you comfort in your time of great loss. Tom loved you all dearly.

For those of us in the King's Point Chorus who could not read music, Tom found many ways to help us learn to count and read and understand the music and he did that by using his wonderffull sense of humor. He made me a better singer and chorus member and for that I will be eternally grateful!
I am sure the many students he taught at all grade levels came to realize how lucky the were to have him as their teacher.

I was so sad to hear of Tom's passing. He came to our last chorus practice this spring just to preview our spring performance under Jeff's direction. Jeff kiddingly said, OK you can do it next year because Tom looked so good and seemed as if he could. I fully expected to see Tom back at the helm again! I am so sorry! My condolences to the family in this sorrowful time.

When we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in Heaven that watches over us. Our warm and caring Tom is surely singing with the angles in Heaven and still watching over us. He sang at my husbands memorial service and was the kindest man ever. My most sincere condolences to you Gayl and family.

A very bright light for SCC has extinguished with Tom's passing, but God has certainly gained one fine musician and gentle soul. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It took but one rehearsal to see how talented Tom was as a director. That's not all though; it was easy to see what a wonderful human being Tom was. He was talented, of course, but a lot more than that. I know I'm not alone when I say that I always looked forward to rehearsals, not just for the singing, but because it was such a pleasure to work with such a terrific guy!
I was so very sad to hear of Tom's passing.

Dear Gayle and family, please, know there are many of us whom you’ve never met who are holding you in loving light as you face life without Tom beside you. He was a remarkable person and hugely talented musician whom I met at Westmar College, as a fellow music major. Tom was a cherished friend and Iowa City roommate of John Sether as they worked on higher degrees in music, before John and I married in 1982. Since our paths took us far from Iowa, I was glad to reconnect with Tom through Facebook, and enjoyed hearing of his professional successes and deep personal happiness. I wish you peace, comfort, and love. — Kim Sether Koehn

Thinking of your family at this difficult time. I know you are surrounded with loving family and friends. The few times I met Tom, he was so nice and full of life. His wife Gayl was always so pleasant and such a great decorator, always looked forward to the new window display each month at Orange Blossom. It is obvious he was loved by so many.
