Obituary of Sarah Jane Shaw Adcock

Adcock, Sarah Jane Shaw, 81, of St. Petersburg passed away June 26, 2018, at St. Anthony's Hospital after a brief illness.  Family and a long-time friend were by her side.  Born and raised in St. Petersburg, she graduated from St. Petersburg High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  At UNC, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.  She spent more than two decades teaching English and Reading at St. Petersburg High and then Northeast High School, retiring in 1997.  She was a member of the Junior League of St. Petersburg, First United Methodist Church and the St. Petersburg Debutante Club.  Sarah Jane was active in the community, volunteering for many years at the St. Petersburg Museum of History, First United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels, CASA and Pack-a-Sack.  She had a love of theatre and music, which she passed on to both of her children.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. "Jack" Adcock, her parents, Leonard C. and Beulah C. Shaw, and her sister, Mary Shaw Adcock.  She is survived by her daughter, Amy E. Adcock, of Washington, DC, and her son, John C. Adcock and his wife Michelle Adcock, of Thorndale, PA.; her sister, Nancy S. Studstill, of Jacksonville, FL; her brother, Leonard Shaw, of Monroe, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg or WEDU.  A memorial service will be held on Friday July 20, 2018 at 1pm at Anderson Mcqueen Funeral Home 2201 Dr. MLK St. N. St. Petersburg, FL 33704
