Obituary of David Thornton Fluker

David Fluker, long-time resident of St. Petersburg,  has died at the age of 88.

 

David Thornton Fluker longtime resident of St. Petersburg Florida passed away on August 29, 2018.  Born in Macon Georgia on August 11, 1930, David moved to St. Petersburg at the age of seven.  A graduate of St. Petersburg High School, he continued taking classes at St. Petersburg Junior College. 

A devout Baptist, David met his wife Barbara at First Baptist Church on March 24th, 1946 and were married on October 22nd, 1950. Together they raised three sons and would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year. 

He began his newspaper career at the age of nine as a paperboy with the St. Petersburg Evening Independent.  He worked for the Times and Independent for over 46 years, rising through the ranks to retire as Circulation Director and Vice President.  His only time away from the Times was to serve as an officer in the Army during the Korean War. 

David is survived by his wife Barbara, sons David, Edward, and Stephen, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
