Obituary of Kathryn Hazen Towne

Kathryn (Kay) Hazen Towne passed away peacefully on September 21, 2018 in St. Petersburg, Florida, surrounded by family.  She was born Kathryn Thynne Hazen on November 20, 1933 in Burlington, Vermont, daughter of the late Walter Robert Hazen and Beatrice Evelyn Bevins. Kathryn was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1952 and married Randolph Ryland Towne on October 10th of that same year. She worked for many years as a telephone switchboard operator for New England Telephone, the University of Vermont, and the Burlington Free Press.  Her last job was as a daycare assistant at the Williston Daycare in the Federated Church where she thoroughly enjoyed helping pre-school children.

Kathryn was predeceased by her son, Jeffrey Towne, and her husband Randolph R. Towne. She is survived by four children, Alan Towne and his husband, Rick Belejack of St. Petersburg, FL; Kevin Towne and his partner, Dee Flanagan of Enosburg, VT; Brian Towne and his wife, Marcia of Williston, VT; and Laura Towne Haight and her husband, Dave of Durham, NH. She is also survived by her sister, Ann (Hazen) Hall of Williston, VT; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Kathryn enjoyed driving the backroads of Vermont in search of craft fairs, yard sales and vegetable stands. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, gardening, and baking. Whoopie pies and snicker doodles were always family favorites.

A memorial gathering will begin at 11am, until the service at 12pm on Saturday, September 29, 2018, Anderson McQueen 2201 Dr. MLK Street North St. Petersburg, Florida 33704.

There will be a graveside memorial for Kathryn at the Georgia Plains Cemetery in Georgia Plains, VT at a future date.
