Dave Morris

Obituary of Dave Morris

G. David Morris, 94, of St Petersburg FL passed from this life on December 7, 2019 (Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day).  Born in Hopkinsville Kentucky, in 1925, the middle of three boys, he left high school to join the Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor.  He returned after the war and met his high school sweetheart, Martha Edna Gary, affectionately known as Meg.  They married and had three children, Margaret "Cicely" Wulff (Bill), Ed (Val) and Anne Rogers (Wayne).

While in Hopkinsville, he was a member of the Civitan Club where he began his lifelong civilian commitment to service.

David and his family moved to St Petersburg in 1969 and lived in his home on 40th Ave for 50 years.

David pursued a career as a homebuilder, working for decades as a contractor.   When he "retired" he began a second career as a site supervisor at Habitat for Humanity, a job that quickly became a passion.  He would say that he was honored to know how many children had bedrooms because of him.

Another passion in his life was helping the children in the community with the Kiwanis club of Sunshine City where he served as as past president and also sponsored several new club members, members of his family.

David was an active member of First Baptist Church of St Petersburg for 50 years and served as a Deacon for many years.

He is survived by his children as well as three grandchildren, Elizabeth Wulff (Erik Crawford), Nicole Riggs (Jason), and Joseph Dowell.  He is further survived by five great grandchildren who all adored him, Addison Crawford, CJ Riggs, Brooks Riggs, Kaycee Hill-Wulff and Rowen Riggs, David is also survived by his older brother, Houston "Mac" Morris of Owensboro, Kentucky as well as a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins and kin.
