Obituary of Charles L. Parrett, Jr.

Charles L. Parrett Jr. (Charles), 20  years at Elmcroft of Pinecrest, Largo, Florida, died on 29 December, 2019, at the age of 98. Charles was born in 1921, in Hamilton County, Indiana, to Charles Lester and Fern Parrett, where he graduated from Tech High School   In Indianapolis. He joined the U.S.Navy early in 1942, became a hospital corpsman, and served with the Marines as a medic across the South Pacific during World War Ii, including landing at Guadalcanal. Subsequent conflict deployments included Korea and Vietnam.

In 1944, he married Melva Lee Spradlin (predeceased) of Monticello, Kentucky, his wife for 60 years; and lived in the Territory of Hawaii following the war. They raised four children: Carol, Dennis, Charles Leslie (predeceased), and James during his 30 year career with the Navy, moving multiple times; and at one point, returning to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1956 for a four year tour, ushering in the birth of his youngest son, James, and the Island’s Statehood, before finally retiring in 1972. Charles immediately began a second 10 year career working for the Florida Health Clinic in Jacksonville.

Following his second retirement, Charles and Lee enjoyed life together after moving to St. Petersburg in 1982 and ultimately to the Pinecrest residence in 1999, until Lee’s passing in 2004. Charles remained at Pinecrest for 15 more years, until his death.

He is survived by his loving daughter Carol Bouchard of Peachtree City, Georgia; and two loving sons, Dennis Parrett of Winter Garden, Florida and James Parrett of Orange Park, Florida; plus 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
