Obituary of Fran Ryan

Frances Camalier Ryan, age 91, passed away suddenly (Not COVID) on April 24, 2020 in St. Petersburg, FL.

A native of Washington, DC, she majored in home economics at the University of Maryland where she was active in her sorority Alpha Chi Omega. It was there she met her late husband. They settled in suburban Kensington, MD.

Fran previously worked as a buyer for Garfinkel’s Department Store. Later she worked until retirement as an administrative assistant with the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Upon retirement Fran joined The Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase where she was active with the literature section and co-chaired the annual book sale.

She was an avid bridge player and assimilated quickly into the Princess Martha where she relocated in early 2020 to be closer to her family.

Fran was a lifelong football fan, and could often be heard cheering in an increasing pitch “Go! Go! Go!” or “Get Him! Get Him!” for both the Washington Redskins and the Maryland Terrapins, while drinking the cheapest light beer she could find.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Martin J. Ryan, a past DC State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus (1981-82). She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sue Ryan Goodman (Mark) of St. Petersburg, FL and loving grandchildren Kate and Mike Goodman.
