Manie Freeman posted a condolence

My name is Manie Slaughter Freeman. I did not know Manie Fitzgerald but I had to stop and read her obituary when I saw it in the paper today as I have never met another Manie (other than those in my family). It makes me wonder if in some way we might have been related.....she looks and sounds like a wonderful lady. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jimmy and I were in the Boy Scouts together. One summer day we had a "patrol meeting" at the Fitzgerald's home while Manie was out shopping. We did not have much Boy Scout business that day, so we decided to have wrestling matches in the beautiful, well appointed living room. We moved all the furniture against the wall and proceeded to have a wrestling tournament in the middle of the room. Manie returned home during one of those wrestling matches. Although she was none too happy and although she quickly put an end to the wrestling matches, she never stopped smiling or being gracious.
I know a very successful lady who as a child was an active participant in the White Station Church of Christ bus ministry. This little girl came from a modest background. She has told me more than once how Manie made her feel special. Manie spent considerable time with this little girl. She took her shopping and opened the little girl's eyes to a world she was not very familiar with. She will never forget Manie and will always appreciate Manie for the kindness and attention that was shown to her.

Such a wonderful lady! Manie and Jim were instrumental in getting my parents to place membership at White Station. They were life long friends. It is amazing to think how much one person can have such a positive impact on a family. Manie was one of those people for the Chester family.

Manie had a profound impact on my life. She was consistently upbeat and positive. She lead a young mothers group at white station that encouraged us to be better wives and better mothers. Manie shared many of her own stories and was always a role model. She stepped out of her comfort zone many times for our benefit. There were several underprivileged young ladies that were taken shopping and taught social graces that impacted their future professional lives. Manie’s influence lives on today. Judy Lawrence
