George Furtado, Jr.

Obituary of George Paul Furtado, Jr.

Furtado Jr., George Paul, or “Pop” as he was affectionately known, 72, of South Pasadena passed away August 3, 2020 at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Born in Newport, Rhode Island he graduated from Rogers High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rosemary Furtado, and his siblings Maureen McIntyre, Charles Furtado, and Robert Furtado. George is survived by Patricia Kay Furtado his loving wife of 50 years; sons Michael (Rachel) Furtado and Matthew (Amanda) Furtado; and grandchildren Maximillian and Amelia Furtado.

George was a master carpenter and worked in the building trade for more than 40 years before retiring. He also had a passion for teaching. Towards the end of his career a lot of his time was spent in the classroom teaching the carpentry trade to those who were willing and courageous enough to learn. George was also a life-long soldier, having enlisted in the Army in March of 1969. He earned a commission as an intelligence officer and served in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. After leaving active-duty service, he joined the Maryland Army National Guard where he served for more than 20 years. He retired in 2008, but continued to support veterans organizations and those still serving.

Above all else, George was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and grandfather, and exemplary role model for his two sons.  He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation – Central Florida Chapter

His graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11am at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
