Obituary of Aggie Spies

Spies, Aggie, 87, of St. Petersburg passed away August 24, 2020 at Carrington Place of St. Pete Rehab Center. Born and raised in North Dakota, she graduated from Mayville State Teacher’s College with a bachelor’s degree in education, and a minor in library sciences. Aggie married Fredrick Spies in July 1956, and they soon moved to Minnesota where Fred earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota. Following the births of their three children, they eventually settled in St. Petersburg, FL. Aggie was preceded in death by her parents, Torger and Hannah Groven. She is survived by her husband Fred; sons Paul and Steven Spies; daughter Ann Batteiger; grandchildren Fredi and Niki Spies, Glenn, Evan, and Aaron Batteiger. Aggie led a very active life with tennis, golf, and the endless, unselfish support of her children throughout their tennis endeavors. Aggie and Fred were active members of the Lutheran church, regularly volunteering in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Aggie was a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international women’s organization with a focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. She loved animals, particularly her most recent kitties, Simba and Dakota. Though Aggie battled Parkinson’s disease for years, few knew the extent to which she struggled. Her positive attitude and determination helped her to stay strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Her beautiful smile, caring spirit, and sunny disposition will be remembered by all who knew her. Due to the constraints of Covid-19, a memorial service will be delayed until November if all goes well. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Parkinson’s Foundation Florida by visiting https://secure3.convio.net/prkorg/site/SPageNavigator/2017_donate_form_2.html or the PEO Sisterhood by visiting https://donations.peointernational.org/
