Jane Weems

Obituary of Jane Willingham Weems

Jane Willingham Weems died peacefully on December 14, 2020, in St. Petersburg, Florida, at the age of 89.
Jane is survived by her daughter Wendy (Bruce) of Charlotte, Vermont, and her sons Sterling (Sallye) of Bethesda, Maryland, Weyman (Alison) of Littleton, Colorado, and Stuart of San Diego, California, as well as her grandchildren Riley Hawkins, Tyler Hawkins, Nolan Hawkins, Adeline Weems, Mason Weems, and Lucy Weems. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Sterling.
Jane was born on July 19th, 1931, in St. Petersburg, to Dorothy and Weyman Willingham and was the oldest of 6 children. She graduated from Randolph Macon in 1952, and married Sterling on June 6, 1959. They remained happily married and very much in love for the remainder of their days.
After settling in Safety Harbor, Florida, for several years, Sterling accepted a position in Washington, D.C. and Sterling and Jane moved to Chevy Chase, Maryland, in 1964, where they raised their family and established strong friendships and camaraderie in their community before returning to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1999 where they enjoyed two decades of retirement together and renewing many friendships and establishing new ones.
Jane was an avid tennis player and downhill skier into her late 80’s, and volunteered as a docent at the National Gallery. Jane was, above all, a loving mother and devoted wife who provided her family with experiences and opportunities beyond enumeration.
A memorial celebrating the life of Jane and her husband Sterling will be held in St. Petersburg, FL, at a later date to be determined.   In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Suncoast Hospice at suncoasthospice.org
The family would like to thank the hospital and hospice staff for the care of their mother during her final days......and most of all, her children want to thank their mom for the wonderful life and character she lived and passed along.
