Obituary of Sandra Lee Besser

Sandra Lee Besser, 75, passed away on February 19, 2021, surrounded by family at home. Born in Summerville, Massachusetts on April 15, 1945. She spent her childhood in Gloucester, Massachusetts, before moving to Saint Petersburg, Florida where she graduated from Northeast Highschool in 1963. 

Sandra obtained a Cosmetology license and become a full-time beautician who co-owned a salon, The New You, with her mother.

She then worked for the American Heart Association as an Executive Administrator in Human Resources planning and organizing fundraising events for over 20 years.

In 1984, Sandra became a member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross. She enjoyed cooking Wednesday night dinners, attending youth group meetings, chaperone youth ski trips, assisting in the trunk or treat, Christmas tree and pumpkin sales, and helping with the annual rummage sale.  Her interests included volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, PTA President, rescuing animals, photography, and ceramics. She also organized and chaperoned Washington, D.C. trips for Riviera Middle School, and LCC Day School.  While her grandchildren attended LCCDS, she dedicated countless hours volunteering in the classroom. Above all, her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother. She loved passing on family traditions and caring for her grandchildren.

Sandra was proceeded in death by her parents, Adolph and Olive Gaspar, and her husband of 53 years, William L. Besser. She is survived by daughters, Danielle (Joe), Amber (Spencer); four grandchildren, Clay, E, Joffre, and Jack; sister, Robyn, and three nieces, Wendi, Tracey, and Cindee.

Sandra’s kind-hearted spirit, warm smile, and her tireless dedication, and love for family and friends will be missed by all. There will be a gathering of friends and family at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home 2201 DR MLK ST N. The gathering will be from 2-3PM with a Memorial Service beginning at 3PM
