Obituary of Herbert Anderson

Herbert Anderson, 92, of St. Petersburg passed away at home on June 22, 2021. Born and raised in Killbuck, OH, he graduated from Killbuck High School where he was a basketball star and attended Kent State University. He lived for many years in Cincinnati, OH before moving to Tierra Verde in the 1970s. Herbert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anderson; siblings Joanne Yoder and Larry Anderson, both from Ohio; children Guy Anderson, Michelle Block, Alan Anderson and Frank Anderson, stepdaughter Kirsten Lundell Koester; grandchildren Lena Portmann, Jo Block, and Quinn Koester; and great-grandchildren Andrin, Daniel and Madison Hope, along with many loving cousins nieces and nephews and friends. Herbert was an entrepreneur and the owner and founder of Roll-a-Way shutters, a St. Petersburg business that he proudly ran and grew from 1975 until his retirement and sale of the company in the mid-1990s. He was an avid traveler and had a particular love for Europe, where he was a frequent visitor with his wife, Elizabeth. Herbert also loved art, theater and music and was a proud supporter of the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts and other local arts organizations. Longtime member of St. Petersburg Yacht Club, he loved playing golf with the Yacht Club golf group. He lived life to the fullest and was quick-witted, generous and had many friends. His sense of humor, intelligence and compassion will be remembered by all who knew him. Herbert was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg. There will be a private memorial service. A celebration of life at St. Petersburg Yacht Club will be announced at a later date.
