Obituary of Russell Franklin Sirmons II

Russ was 70 years old when he passed away on Thursday February 17, 2022. He passed peacefully but suddenly at home.

He suffered many years from neuropathy after surviving 10 years of battling cancer. He was born on October, 09, 1951.

Born, raised and lived in St. Petersburg, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arabella Stephens Sirmons, Russel F Sirmons,Sr., as well as his only sister, Kathy Sirmons Jefferis. Kathy passed away 01/15/22.

Russ is survived by his daughter, Season Hinkle, grandson, Scotty Redmond, Niece, Jennifer Jefferis, great nephews and niece, Joshua, Breanna and Russell Curry, a great grandnephew,Russell Curry, jr.

Russ or “Capt.” Russ as he liked to be called, was a naturalist artist, active environmentalist, fishing guide, sportsmen and a Florida native. He has been recognized for his fish and wildlife art, created on paper with pen & ink and then carved into glass and or wood. He was a highly skilled woodworker. Taught by Earl Gresh, a well known local, artist and woodworker, when he was a young teen. Capt. Russ was featured in local newspapers, on local radio shows and Florida sportsmen magazine for his expertise as a guide fishermen, environmentalist and artist. He received many awards -An Environmental Action Award in 1991, a plaque from CCA for his years of dedication to keeping Florida’s fisheries clean and healthy in 1997, and many more.

There will not be a service. His ashes will be scattered into the waters he loved so much. Please donate to a charity that is currently helping our environment in Russel’s name.
