Obituary of Virginia Adele Nelson

Virginia "Ginny" Adele Nelson began her journey beyond the mortal coil on January 23, 2023 in Saint Petersburg, Florida. At 88 years "young", Virginia finally lost her 3 year battle with serious health issues. Born in upstate New York on June 15, 1934, Virginia was predeceased by: parents James J. Bullis and his wife Adele McKewen Bullis, and also both brothers Richard "Dick" Bullis, and J. Peter "Pete" Bullis and sister-in-law Marion "Mimi" Bullis (Pete's wife). Virginia is also predeceased by her late husband of 26 years, Robert "Bobby" Cole Nelson. Virginia is survived by her daughter and sonin-law, Rhonda "Roni" Coyle and John A. "Tony" Coyle, and sister-in-law, Jayne C. Bullis, and several loving nieces and nephews and their beautiful families.

Virginia is a graduate of St. Petersburg High School. After high school, she worked at Florida National Bank and City Fuel Oil, then went on to work in Computer Services at Florida Power/ Progress Energy, where she retired in 1994 after 30 years. She was very active in Ladies Oriental Shrine and Daughters of the Nile. She also volunteered at St. Petersburg Police Resource Center, and at St. Vincent's Episcopal Church, where she regularly attended. She was a member of the Florida Power Club, and Florida Power Retirees. And who could possibly forget her in her red and purple Red Hats outfit ! She loved going to parades all over West Central Florida with her husband Bob, who was a Shriner in the Egyptians marching band. She was an avid golfer, and was in, and organized many tournaments at Florida Power/Progress Energy.

Virginia loved talking to and being with her family! Some of the activities she enjoyed were watching movies, music, dancing, writing poems, dabbling in painting, going to the theater, playing cards, luncheons, getting and giving presents, bingo, and any excuse to socialize and have fun ! She loved performing the Wing Dance, and being the drummer in the ladies band, being in plays, and doing fundraising luncheons, etc, for Ladies Oriental Shrine and Daughters of the Nile in support of the Shriners' Children's Hospital. And if you knew Virginia, then you also knew when her birthday was... as she would enjoy reminding everyone! Virginia always enjoyed connecting with people, laughing, and making friends. Always with a smile, and compassion for others, she loved having fun, and was known for her generosity. She loved to dress up, and go places! Shopping was one of her passions...another was her 2 adorable Bichon Frise dogs Puffie and Pepe, who often accompanied her! Christmas was her favorite time of year, and purple her favorite color. In short...Virginia loved life and lived it to the fullest !
