Obituary of Ruth Quarles

Ruth Bahmiller Quarles passed away peacefully into the embrace and comfort of our savior Jesus Christ at Suncoast Hospice Care Center Mid-Pinellas on Friday, June 16th, 2023 at the age of 75. 

Ruthie, as she liked to be called, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She enjoyed spending time in her garden and playing hymns on the piano.  

She was born and raised in St. Petersburg, the fourth of six children.  She grew up helping out at her Dad’s bakery, Bahmiller’s Bakery, on First Avenue North.  She graduated from St. Petersburg High School, St. Petersburg Junior College and the University of South Florida.  She was a teacher for 9 years in Pinellas County, including Sunshine Elementary, Tyrone Middle, and Pasadena Elementary, as well as a substitute teacher at several schools in the St. Petersburg area.

We are comforted knowing that she was a woman of faith, and that she is now at peace with her Lord in Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth Bahmiller; her brother, Jonathan Bahmiller; and her nephew, Daniel Bahmiller.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David of St. Petersburg; two daughters, Ann Quarles Poisson (David) of Raleigh, NC; Rebecca Quarles (James) of St. Petersburg; a son, Mark Quarles (Meredith) currently residing in Rabat, Morocco; and four grandsons, Luke and Jonathan Poisson, Ethan Ogg, and Elliott Quarles-Wallis.  She is also survived by two sisters, Martha (Fred) Lair and Mary (John) Heine; and two brothers, David Bahmiller, and Paul (Mary) Bahmiller.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the outpouring of love, support and kindness that has been shown by family and friends as well as the caring staff at Suncoast Hospice who helped care for Ruthie during her last few weeks with us.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at Anderson McQueen funeral home at 2201 Dr. M.L. King Street North, St. Petersburg, FL.  She will be buried on Friday, June 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memory Gardens at 101 58th St S, St. Petersburg, FL.
