Obituary of Donald W Ruohomaki

Donald W. Ruohomaki, 79, of St. Petersburg, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at his residence surrounded by family. Born  February 16, 1944, in Ishpeming, Michigan, he was the son of the late Wallace and Dorothy (Niemi) Ruohomaki.  He was raised in Whittier, CA and enlisted in the US Army.  He proudly dedicated his life to his country, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  His military service took him around the world serving tours during Vietnam and Desert Storm.  After 30 years of service, he moved to St. Petersburg. Don was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was an avid classic/antique car collector and a staunch supporter of Veterans Groups. He and his wife traveled extensively, enjoying their yearly vacations at Hale Koa Hawaii.  He will be remembered most for his absolute love and support of his family.  

Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Sue Ruohomaki; his son, Davin and his wife, Sherry Acanfora Ruohomaki and their daughter, Isabella; his daughter, Sondra Ruohomaki; his daughter, Cynthia and her husband, Rob McClure and their children, Dalton and Riley.   

Family and friends will gather at Sarasota National Cemetery on Wednesday September 13, 2023, at 12:30pm for a graveside service with full military honors.  Family is requesting, in Don’s memory, to kindly support your local veteran organization.
