Obituary of Yvonne Thompson

Yvonne Thompson, 85, of St Petersburg, born March 16, 1938 in St. Cloud, MN and passed on September 26th in her home. .

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alma Henz; her husband, Don Thompson: her son, D.J.; and her sister JoAnne Guck. She is survived by her two brothers, William Henz and wife Jackie, Charles Henz and wife Verlynn, and sister, Suzanne Ratledge and husband Jerry. Surviving nieces and nephews included Tina Posch, Bill Henz, Ryan Carter, Todd Carter, Shannon Gibbons, and Jonathan Henz.

She was a devoted Catholic and long-time member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, leaving a generous scholarship endowment to benefit future students at St. Raphael’s Catholic School in memory of her deceased son, D.J. Thompson. An avid reader, she had a deep love for her family and friends and was always a great source of comfort and good counsel. She was a compassionate and long-time caregiver to her terminally ill son, D.J. and later to her husband, Don.

She attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joesph, MN, and later graduated from Eckerd College. She was supervisor of the pathology lab at Tampa General Hospital and was a founder and instructor at the School of Histology at Tampa General. She later served as supervisor of Anatomical Pathology at the Bay Pines V.A. Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made to Suncoast Hospice of St. Petersburg.
