Paul Merrett

Obituary of Paul Douglas Merrett

Paul Douglas Merrett, 76, of St Petersburg, Florida, left this world on December 31, 2023, to embark on his next great adventure. Born on December 7, 1947, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Paul was a true Canuck at heart. He was a master of jokes, a lover of life, and a legend in his own right.

Paul was the rock of his family, survived by his loving wife, Ilze, and his children, Matthew, Evelyn, Samantha (Bill) and James (Sandra). He was also a loving grandfather to Dean, Tania, Evan, Nathan, Erik, Sheri-Lyn (Derrick), Taylor (Caitlyn), Leighton, Shanna, Garrett and Zoie. Paul was great-grandfather to Maya, Maverick, Maevery-Lynn, Sophia, SukiNoelle and Charlotte. Paul's heart was heavy as he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lia, and his granddaughter, Kendall. He now rests peacefully, reunited with his parents, Patricia and Douglas, who passed before him.

In his younger years, Paul attended Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute, where he honed his witty banter and quick thinking. He then embarked on a 27-year adventure as an IBM Facilities Service Coordinator, where he kept everyone on their toes with his knack for problem-solving and hilarious one-liners.

Join us as we celebrate Paul's life on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at 506 55th Ave, St. Pete Beach, FL 33706. We'll be sharing stories, laughter, and maybe even shedding a tear or two (of laughter, of course). On Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 am, we'll bid farewell to our beloved Paul at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5233 118th Ave N, Clearwater, FL 33760. Afterward, we'll gather at Quaker Steak & Lube, 10400 49th Street N, Clearwater, FL 33762, to indulge in some grub and raise a glass to the man who knew how to make every moment count.

Paul's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. So, let's honor his memory by sharing a joke, spreading joy, and embracing life with the same zest that Paul did.

Paul will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his successful career, and how he took great pride of the lives he impacted of those around him and how others impacted his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice. Together, we can continue a legacy of kindness and compassion.
