I am acquainted with the Schneiders of Red Oak, Beavercreek, Ohio. A caring and loving family.
I met Bobby only briefly, but he made a lasting impression. He had three qualities that I truly love in human beings, he had a 'zest for life', a good and positive attitude, and a sense of humor.
When he left us, a bright candle went out.
My condolences to the Scheiders. He came from a loving family.
Godspeed, Bobby.
God Bless, and peace and happiness.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers, as well as your memories give you comfort to help you endure the days ahead. The Bible also offers comfort. "For God is near to those broken at heart. " Ps 34:17,18. Our Creator promises that there will soon be a time when "death will be no more." Revelation 21:4

The friends and family have returned home. The house is quiet. I wanted take the opportunity to reflect on the last few weeks and to thank everyone for their love and support. The service was a beautiful tribute to Bob Schneider's life and legacy. Corbin and Drew, his adult sons shared beautiful words about their father and I wanted to share my letter to Bob, which was read during his Celebration of Life service on Sunday 8/11/13.
_
My dearest Bob,
How do I start? What can I say?
So many years ago, I asked God to bring a man in to my life that I could love and share my life with, the man of my dreams. I wrote down all the qualities I wanted in my future love; I didn't force it, I prepared and I was patient and knew the right person would come to me in time…Then you arrived; everything I had asked for and more! I was truly blessed!
Who knew when we met we would be on this journey. A journey that took us to places we wanted to go, places we never knew we wanted to go and the unexpected roads where we didn't want to go. Nevertheless, it was our journey together.
Our times together were always cherished, stealing weekends together, a "stay-cation" and even the surprise of dates during the week. As we grew closer, our time together was more like we were one, enjoying our day trips to see the manatees, to our favorite burger joint; El Caps and the beach or staying at home, swimming in the pool, grilling outside or cooking a special dinner and dancing while we waited for our meal to cook. Trips to the mountains, to the beach, whatever we did was always an adventure and we learned to expect the unexpected.
We had a lifetime of love in a short period of time. We shared the simple pleasures of life. We talked of the past, the plans for the future and growing old together. Such joy, sipping coffee by the pool in the early morning hours, waiting for our dolphin friends to swim by, listening to the birds chirp as you so keenly identified each one. Waiting and watching for the menagerie of animals that came to visit; Edwin the Egret, Freddie the frog, Jake the snake bird and Randy raccoon. Our daily walks in the neighborhood were filled with anticipation-looking for those animals that were out and about and finding "Guardie Cat" who trotted towards us when we brought him snacks.
We faced a lot of adjustments during our time together and we managed to navigate each situation with your calm demeanor keeping me on the level. You encouraged me when I doubted, you supported me when I was down, you never gave up on me- I appreciated how we complimented each others' personalities.
You shared and taught me so many lessons in life, love, faith, hope, patience and understanding; some I have learned and others I continue to work on. I remember on one of trips to Duke, I broke down crying and you said to me, "Have faith; you will have to be strong for the both of us". Even in the most difficult times you encouraged me and brought me back saying, "we will get through this, we always do".
I loved you before you arrived in my life, before you told me you loved me, I was committed to you before we were engaged and married. Your trust in me was a gift; an honor. You trusted me to help you through challenging times, to make the tough decisions when you couldn't do it yourself. We faced those challenges head on and with your faith and trust in me I was able to make the tough decisions. After the medical treatments, the struggles and pain, I wanted to keep you comfortable and help you through your last days.
In your final weeks, we continued to talk and pray and share. We had such precious time together and had the chance to say what we needed to say; I am thankful for that treasure and gift of time. To watch you go was tough; to know our time on earth together was near the end. You never gave up hope and continued to fight. Even in your final hours, with our dear friends Michael and Jeff by your side you fought to remain. When, I knew there was nothing more I could do, I crawled in to your bed and lai

Bob was a great guy. It was fun to catch up with him after 25 years. Kim and I looked foward to seeing Bob every winter on our golf trips to Florida. Bob had such a great sense of humour. A terrible loss for Michelle and Bob's family.
We will miss him, especially in Januarys.

I grew up next door to Bob on Red Oak Road. He was mischievous and always had a smile on his face. I was six years older than Bob. He was a very busy boy. One day Bob covered our (Hedges family) picnic table with sand. I decided to climb onto the table in my patent leather shoes and promptly slipped and incurred a gash in my chin which required stitches. Bob and I laughed about this when we got older. It was a magical time growing up on Red Oak Road next to the Schneiders, from sled riding ( Bob would be the watchman at the bottom of our hill) to swim meets at Walnut Grove as well as watching the fireworks on the 4th of July. Bob was always there ready to have fun. What a terrible loss for all of us. I hope he is having a beer in heaven with my late brother Jack who sold Bob his first bike. We will all meet again some day.

What a sad day it was when I got the call from Bob's brother Bill. I've known Bob for 37 years. We first met at Ohio State in 1976 and became roommates and friends. We had lots of fun times together, football games, the ski team and parties. What I mostly remember was our ten day trip to California when Bob went to grad school at Chico State and I moved to California for good. My first date with my wife Shawn was with Bob and Barb in San Francisco. Shawn said Bob was so nice it seemed like she knew him all her life. Just like Bob's family who I spent a few holidays with...they always made you feel like part of their family. Bob was also in our wedding in 1989. A day we'll always remember.
Even though we were in California we had lots of great visits and talks on the phone, reminiscing about the old days or what was going on at the time. That was the thing about Bob, whether you talked to him yesterday or a few months ago it seemed like you had talked to him yesterday. You could always tell he truly cared about you when you talked.
We were glad to be there for Michelle & Bob's ceremony and visit with his family again. Bob was a great friend to us both who was taken too early. We will miss him always and be forever grateful for all the good times and memories we have of him. A true friend to many...gone too soon. Prayers and hugs to Michelle, Bob's family and Corey and Drew
Your friends, Tom & Shawn

I was so very sorry to hear of Bob's death. He always had on such a huge, beautiful smile from the first time I meet him to the last visit we had. I'm so thankful that he made the trip for our last high school class reunion and that we had a chance to chat.---even though one eye was on the tv in the corner since the Buckeyes were playing! At a previous reunion in remember him telling me that I should appreciate our local John Bryan State Park because it is one of the most beautiful state parks that he ever visited . . . .and he had been to many. He spoke of many wonderful times in that park. I'll think of him every time I go there. Prayers to his family. Nancy Shumway Forsthoefel - Beavercreek Class of 1975

Wow, what a sad day and am so sorry for his family. Bob and I grew up in Beavercreek and we played soccer together for years, attended Ohio State together and had many mutual friends. Although I have not seen Bob in many years, I will always remember him for his upbeat and positive personality, laughter, and outdoor spirit. We had many fun times with the Beavercreek soccer team, and many crazy times at Ohio State. Bob is the one who pushed me to try snow skiing as we joined the Ohio State Ski Club and we skied at Mansfield with the club on Friday night Winters during college. I have often thought of Bob when the topic of skiing comes up with friends. I am forever grateful that he pushed me into skiing as my family has now enjoyed many fun times skiing together. Bob was also the first one to take me hunting as we went rabbit hunting in high school together. He was always into what I considered different areas of interest, and he opened me up to them. I am again grateful that l was a small part of his life. I will keep Bob in my prayers.
