Obituary of Alice Bakewell Highfield

Highfield, Alice Bakewell, 83, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, October 23rd, 2000 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. She was born in Detroit, MI and came here in 1946 from Colorado Springs, CO. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School in Detroit and the Detroit Business Institute, and then earned an Associate degree in banking and finance from St. Petersburg Junior College. She worked for the accounting firm of George Bemis for 15 years, and then retired from the former Century First National Bank, now the First Union Bank on 4th Street as a Word Processing Officer. She then worked part time for Florida National Bank in charge of American Institute of Banking. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she did volunteer work and was an officer with their Highlander Bible Class, she was in the Mothers Christian Study Club #4, she was an active girl scout leader, and a PTA mother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William S.; 1 son, Stephen of Greenville, SC; 1 daughter, Gwen Webber of Winter Haven, FL; 4 brothers, Elton Bakewell of Lakeland, FL, Wesley Bakewell of San Diego, CA, Eugene Bakewell of VA, William Bakewell of St. Petersburg; 1 sister, Olive Mae Maas of Zephyrhills, FL; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
