Obituary of Marcia Jeanne Thomson

Marcia Jeanne Thomson passed away in St. Petersburg, Florida on March 9, 2001. She was born November 24, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa, the fourth of six children of Donald and Eloise Anderson. Marcia graduated from the University of Iowa and then moved east to Long Island, New York to do her part for the war effort as a Navy WAVE. There she met Robert Cooper Thomson, whom she married on June 15, 1946. Marcia and Bob raised four children in Amityville, New York. She returned to school to get her Masters of Education degree and in 1965 began a career as a kindergarten teacher in the Massapequa school system. Marcia and Bob enjoyed sailing and the company of their many friends in the South Bay Cruising Club. In 1980, they sailed their boat south to retirement in St. Petersburg, Florida, to join several of their friends who had already settled there. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 1996. Bob passed away the following year. Locally, Marcia belonged to the St. Petersburg Country Club formerly Lakewood Country Club and the Unitarian Universalist Church. Marcia is survived by her children, Heather, Bonnie, Donald and Robert Thomson; her grandchildren, Seth and Drew Tillman, Emily Petrilak, David and Jennifer Thomson; her oldest sister, Mary Eloise Schoch, and many Iowa relatives. She is also survived by her wide circle of loving friends in St. Petersburg.
