Obituary of Lyman Waddell Martyn

Martyn, Lyman Waddell, III, 83, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Foley Alabama, died Saturday June 16, 2001 at Hospice House Woodside in Pinellas Park, Florida. Born in Calexico, California, on January 27, 1918, Lyman was the first son of Lyman Waddell Martyn, II and Miriam Roberts Swift. He grew up in Miami, Florida, graduating from Edison High School in 1936. He attended the University of Florida and served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He retired from a career in commercial contracting in 1979, as Vice President of Concreteform, and moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he engaged in tree farming on the family farm. His family and friends will remember Lyman as the kind and loving man they all came to know. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Foley, where he served on the Building Committee and was a member of the choir for many years. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Beatrice E. Martyn, 2 daughters, Catherine Riehl, and her husband Art, of St. Petersburg and Diane Kinslow of Tampa, Florida, 2 sons, Lyman Martyn, IV, and his wife Marjorie, of Miami, Florida and Thomas Martyn, and his wife Taeko, of Paris, France, and 4 grandchildren, Christopher Kinslow, John Martyn, William Martyn and Jamie Martyn.
