Obituary of Mary Alma Roberts Benson

Benson, Mary Alma Roberts, 93, of Largo, FL died Sunday August 5, 2001 at Oak Manor Nursing Home, Largo. Born in Tampa, she moved to St. Petersburg in 1980, before coming to Largo. She was a graduate of FSU and Duke University and taught English and Latin in Tampa public schools for over 40 years. Mrs. Benson was past president of the Florida Classical League and the St. Petersburg Book Club. She was a member of Adah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a former Docent of the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts. She was a former member of Stuart Society, St. Petersburg Women?s Club, St. Petersburg Historical Society, First Church of Christ Scientist, St. Petersburg and Second Church of Christ Scientist, Tampa. Alma was the daughter of the late Nathan and Florence Hodgson Roberts. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jackson and granddaughter, Ashley Jackson, both of Seminole, step-daughters, Harriet Turner and Betty Eichler, both of California, and a step-son, William Benson, Pompano Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Pinellas Youth Symphony, P.O. Box 2755, Dunedin, FL 34697-2755.
