Obituary of David Terrell Overbey, Jr.

Overbey, David Terrell, Jr., M.D., 81, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday October 21, 2001 at home after a long illness. Born in Oneonta, Alabama, he came here in 1954 from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a general internal medicine physician in private practice in St. Petersburg for over 37 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War where he was a Captain and Chief of Medical Services of the 171st EVAC Hospital in Taijan, Korea. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville and the University of Louisville School of Medicine Class of 1944 and received his Masters of Science in Physiology at the University of Louisville. His internship was at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington, Kentucky, and he took his residency at Charleston General Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. He was also a researcher and instructor at the Department of Physiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served a Fellowship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, prior to coming to St. Petersburg. He was a member of the Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, a past president of the Pinellas County Medical Association, a past president of the Florida Physicians Association, a past president of the staff at St. Petersburg General Hospital, was on the staff at St. Anthony?s Hospital, Edward White Hospital and St. Petersburg General Hospital, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary Society, past president of the American Lung Association Local Chapter, a member of the Northeast Racquet Club, past member of Kiwanis and a member of St. Raphael?s Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Charlotte B. Overbey, 3 daughters, Anne M. Turner of Temecula, California, Mary Margaret ?Peggy? Overbey of Alexandria, Virginia and Barbara Ruth Gomer of St. Petersburg, 2 sons, David T. Overbey, III of Alexandria, Virginia and Louis D.C. Overbey of St. Petersburg, 2 sisters, Marguerite Hall of Crescent City, Florida and Mary E. Evans of Dunnellon, Florida, and 8 grandchildren.
