Obituary of Willaim R. Monty

Monty, Sr., William R. Ret. Captain, USAR, 84, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at St. Petersburg General Hospital. Born in Mechanicville, New York, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1983 from Albany, New York. He was a Retired Captain with the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He graduated from Albany High School in 1938 and was a 1942 graduate of Norwich University in Vermont and The Cavalry School. He also graduated from the U.S.A.A.F. Pilot School in 1943. He served with the U.S.A.A.F. 55th F.G. in Europe 1944 including D Day. He landed the first U.S.A.F. aircraft at Normandy Beach and flew P59 Jet Fighters in 1945. He served in the N.Y.A.N.G. New York Army National Guard and N.Y.A.R.N.G. New York Army Reserve National Guard from 1947 until 1981. After retiring from military service, he served 21 years with the New York Department of Labor as a manager of the Albany Unemployment Office. He was predeceased by son, William R. Monty, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Anne; three daughters, Judith Ann Ayer, Newbury, OH, Charlene Madarassi, Schenectady, NY and Consuela Bingnear, St. Petersburg, FL; a son Lt. Col. Raymond Monty, Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson.
