Obituary of Silvia Garcia Nava de Martinez Andres

Andres, Silvia Garcia Nava de Martinez, 90, of St. Petersburg, died Monday July 10, 2006 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. She came here in 1960 from her native Havana, Cuba. She was a medal winner in the Pan American Games in basketball and swimming during the 1940?s. From 1945 until 1950 she was a Diplomat for both Cuba and Spain as well as a translator for the U. S. Embassy. She was a teacher in St. Petersburg from 1962 until 1985 having taught at Canterbury, Adirondack and Holy Name. She was a member of the St. Pete Yacht Club, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hojita Mater Sorority and Shorecrest Preparatory School Grandparents Association. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Andres Coryell, St. Petersburg; and four grandchildren: Anthony Jennings, Clay Cowen, and Sean Jennings, all of St. Petersburg; and Stanton Cowen, West Palm Beach, FL.
