Obituary of Richard R. Bredenberg

Dr. Richard R. "Dick" Bredenberg, 75, of St. Petersburg, died Friday, October 26, 2001 at St. Anthony's Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, New York and moved to St. Petersburg in 1964 from Los Angeles, California. He graduate from Dartmouth College with a major in philosophy and received a master's degree in sacred theology from Oberlin College. He received a doctorate in philosophy from New York University and a doctorate of ministry from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Bredenberg joined Eckerd College in 1965 and retired in 1991 as director of teacher education. He remained connected to Eckerd until 1999, however, as the director of the school's Management Development Institute that conducts training courses. He launched an international exchange program that has attracted hundreds of Japanese students. Earlier, he taught at Occidental College in Los Angeles and Alfred University in New York state. He was a member of the First Unity Church in St. Petersburg, the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College and the Presbytery of Tampa Bay. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Huldah, one son, Eric Bredenberg of Los Alamitos, California, two daughters, Ingrid Bredenberg of Montague, Massachusetts, Sigrid Flor of Orlando, Florida, and three grandchildren, Esmee Grant, Tiffany Flor and Leif Flor.
