Obituary of Robert B. "Bob" Dalton

Robert B. Dalton, 84, of Seminole, Florida, died Monday, February 2, 2009 at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. He was born in Summit, New Jersey and served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II, going in from ROTC at the University Of Washington where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He completed college at Brown University on the GI Bill and settled in Massachusetts. He worked for the Hartford Fire Insurance Company as a field agent throughout New England until 1959 when he moved to Florida to become a partner with Dwight McCormick who had an independent insurance agency in St. Petersburg. They became lifelong friends and enjoyed wonderful times as married couples as well. He was a member of the St. Pete Independent Insurors where he served as president and was named Insurance Agent Of The Year in 1984. He was named Boss Of The Year by the Insurance Women of St. Petersburg in 1974-1975. He served as a sponsor, manager, and umpire in the Gulf Beaches Little League in the 1960's. Bob was active in the PTA and Boosters Club at Seminole High School where he served as president and worked with others in building the ticket booth and other improvements for the new football field and a patio area on the campus. He always enjoyed boating from the first small second hand rowboat with a sail, graduating to a fifteen foot ski and fishing boat, followed by his Morgan 22 sailboat, and last, the Stamas 21 for cruising. Bob served in town government in North Redington Beach as commissioner and mayor. Through his elected position in the town, he became involved with the Holiday Isles Municipal Association where he also served as president. He was a volunteer fireman for many years and also served on the fire board in an advisory capacity. He was a long time member of Kiwanis International where he served several times as president, making wonderful friends and believing in the good work of the service organization. He was also a member of the Holiday Isles Elks Club and the local American Legion Post 273. Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife for many years on tours, independent trips, and cruises stateside and abroad. For several years after retirement, he helped in the classroom with his wife at Seminole Elementary. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Janette "Jan" G.; and 1 daughter, Robyn Dalton of Largo.
