He came here in 1990 from his native New Haven, CT where he was the laundry manager at Monarch Laundry for 23 years. Locally, he was the laundry supervisor at Bon Secours Maria Manor for 12 years. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Doris, four sons, Wesley, Gregory, and Christopher Merritt all of St. Petersburg, Corey Merritt of Apopka, six daughters, Juanita Ayala of New Haven, Doreen Merritt of Fort Lauderdale, Corina Merritt, Katrina Davis, Mary Ann Merritt, and Kimberly Merritt all of St. Petersburg, three brothers, Tony Merritt of Mesa, AZ, Glen Merritt of New Haven, Michael Merritt of Hamden, CT, two sisters, Norma Keene and Alice Lee both of New Haven, and 17 grandchildren.
