Obituary of Juliet Mastry Miller

MILLER, Juliet Mastry 96, of South Pasadena, FL, passed on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. She was born in Tampa, Florida April 1, 1921 and grew up in St. Petersburg where she graduated from St. Petersburg High School and attended St. Petersburg College. She left home in St. Petersburg to pursue her singing career as a soloist, where she sang for over ten years throughout New York City and Philidelphia, accompanied by many of the famous Big Bands of that era and also entertaining the military troops. The 1946 Billboard Headline review said: "Juliet Mastry, prima donna… stopped the show cold!" as she often did with each and every performance. Her operatic voice was a jewel to treasure, especially her "high notes" always crystal clear and beautiful. After she met her husband in New York City, she became a restauranteur owning a chain of restaurants throughout Manhattan, night clubs, a woman's fashion boutique and a Hallmark gift shop. Juliet resided in Manhattan where she raised her two children, even after she was widowed when her children were very young. In 1976, Juliet returned to her hometown of St. Petersburg, Florida to be with her beloved sisters and brothers, and her Mastry family relatives. She enjoyed a very successful career in real estate until her retirement. Her activities included singing in the choir and as a soloist, at her beloved church, The Cathedral of St. Peter, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Singing was her first love, and she always said singing at St. Peter is "where she felt most at home to honor God." Juliet's professional associations included being awarded designation as "Princess" from the Heart Association for voluntary work in St. Petersburg, "1997 Best Groomed" by the Woman's Service League of St. Petersburg, and serving as Past President of The Women's Chamber of Commerce of the Greater Gulf Beaches, St. Petersburg. She was also a member of the Woman's Service League, Florida Orchestra Guild, St. Anthony's Auxiliary, Infinity Club, Sword of Hope, Al Kareem Club, St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, soloist City of St. Petersburg, March of Dimes Benefit at Al Lang Field, Heart Ball as a soloist, Suncoast Opera Guild, United Way Committee, YWCA, and Board of Directors at the National Lions Clubs National Convention. Juliet was awarded the title of Seminole Indian Princess and then became their representative in a regional music festival, where won First Place Award for her performance. Juliet was also part of the Senior Citizens program soloist Christmas gathering, was a volunteer soloist and choir member of St. Matthew's Church from 1978-1987, and a volunteer soloist and choir member of St. Peters Cathedral from 1987 - 2016. Juliet loved her family beyond measure. She is irreplaceable and will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Juliet is survived by daughter, Marie S. Dahm and her husband Richard Dahm Sr., as well as their children (Juliet's grandchildren), Richard Dahm Jr. and his wife Dr. Yvonne Franco, Matthew C.
