Margaret Phyllis Hunter passed away on Tuesday under the generous and tender care of Hospice and staff nurses at Westminster Suncoast Retirement Community and with family members close by. Funeral arrangements will be private.

Phyllis was born in Lake City Florida, the third daughter of F.H. and Nita Cason of Isabella Street.  Her sisters, Meredythe and Merle and her brother F.H. preceded her in death. She graduated from high school in Lake City where she played basketball on the school team.  She married William Ward Hunter Sr. June 1, 1935, attended Stetson University in Deland for one year, as a married student, and joined the Tri-Delta Sorority.

As a widow, she married Joseph Creaven in 1986 and enjoyed many years with him at the Westminster Suncoast in St. Petersburg.

She is survived by three devoted children: Colonel William Ward Hunter, Jr. (Virginia) Ellen Hunter Ulken (Jerry), and Craig M. Hunter (Dianne) and five grandchildren: William Ward Hunter, III, (Amy) Courtney Key Hunter, Eric B. Ulken (Bénédicte) Tobey Hunter Phillips, Samantha Hunter Padgett, and five great-grand children: William Ward Hunter IV, Mary Madeline Hunter, Grayson Padgett, Bradley Padgett, and Casey Phillips.

For many years Phyllis served as a volunteer in the gift shop at Bayfront Medical Center, and subsequently worked in the Exchange Shop at the Westminster Suncoast Manor, where she thoroughly enjoyed friendships with fellow residents and camaraderie with fellow workers.  Phyllis learned to play bridge when she was nine years old and adored the game all of her life.  She loved her retirement community including staff members in dining, transportation, maintenance, health care, administration and housekeeping.  She revered her friends and bridge partners.  She loved her children and grandchildren, who will miss her forever.
