I just learned of the passing of Hugh. I was a classmate and friend of Hugh at Belt Jr. High and Wheaton High School. We were both in Orchestra at both schools. I just looked at the Wheaton High picture of Orchestra and normally Hugh played Viola, but he is pictured with a Cello. I played Clarinet. We got in trouble together probably in 9th grade at Belt with Mr. Sam Adams, the music teacher, when we wrote all over his car, with our fingers on the dirt, to "Wash Me". Mr. Adams was not pleased and he made us wash his car. We did this at Hugh's house which was a long walk and then I had a long walk home, as I had newspapers to delivery! But now a good memory. Mr. Sam Adams, is now 85 and I did finally find him, image that, with the name like Sam Adams, a bit difficult, but I did. He was one of my role models growing up. I did email Mr. Adams about Hugh's passing and I wrote this story in the email. I had no idea that Hugh graduated in 1978 from the University of Maryland. So did I, with a degree in Marketing. I have the graduation book here and sure enough, I see his name. There were so many people getting degrees that day, it was impossible to see all. I actually sat next to someone in our Wheaton High School class that day, getting his degree, as he played clarinet too. Hugh was a good person.
Sincerely,
Mike Marmer
