Obituary of Lemuel W. Cousins Jr.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 31st 2023, Lemuel Woodward Cousins Jr, as witnessed by the presence of his beloved daughter Vanessa, entered into eternal glory at Largo Medical Hospital in Florida. This God fearing man, who suffered for many years with serious heart and kidney ailments, was forever humble, gracious and kind towards all whom he met and knew, even to the very end. Born on March 12th, 1954 in Washington DC, to Lemuel Sr. and Jacqueline Cousins, he would become the oldest of their five children. Lemuel would go on to finish Morgan State University, and pursue both a life of Gospel ministry (serving at one time as a Baptist missionary with his wife, Vernetta), and the tireless vocation of an “adult special needs caregiver”, in both New York and in Florida. Eventually; however, his ailing health would necessitate that he live in an assisted living facility. Along the way, he was also a foster care and adoption parent to several children and teenagers. Thankfully, he was led to reside at Oak Manor Senior Living Community in Largo, Florida for eight years, in which he would not only develop many close friendships, but also strive to comfort and minister to many of its residents. Additionally, Lemuel was able to establish many close Church relationships at Grace Bible and Suncoast Bible fellowship. It was always Lemuel’s aim to encourage and care for all people, and to especially share with them his heartfelt, and eternal hope in Jesus Christ his Lord. Thankfully, this goal will be celebrated along with his wonderful life, at Anderson McQueen Funeral home on November 14th at 11:00am, with the live streaming of this service available.
